What our families say about us.....
"My son was in public school and I was watching a slow but steady withdraw from the happy kid he was. In my heart I knew he needed an anchor. Too much world, not enough God and floating day to day was bringing him down. Through prayer I began my search, as God lead me first, followed by my son, followed by my husband. And here we are! And for Summit I am truly grateful!!!"
"I noticed it the first time I came on campus. There is so much peace and joy everywhere. Playground, classrooms, office staff. I got the sense that everyone really cared about each other and actually practiced real Christian love..."
"Why Summit? There are so many reasons and I find more to add to the list each new day that my children come home from school with bright eyes and happy smiles!"
'The day that my now 6th grader shadowed last year was the start to "Why?'. At the end of the day I asked her what she liked most about her visit. Her answer was that she loved the fact that they begin their day with a prayer. "Out loud!" she said incredulously. She felt that she could never do something like that at public school and in her words, "it felt right".
"Deut 6:5-7 teaches to love the Lord with all our heart, with all our soul and with all our strength and to teach these things diligently to our children. This teaching is at the heart of Summit Christian School and this spirit is in every teacher and staff member that works there.
My children are at school 6 1/2 hours a day. The thought of them being in a public school that many hours where there is rarely if ever any mention of God and much of what is taught goes directly against biblical teaching was unthinkable for me. Praise the Lord HE has provided for my children to be blessed by Summit and to grow in the admonition of the Lord. We continually lift Summit up to the Lord and ask that He raise up for Himself a generation of christian leaders that will not compromise God's holy Word. God is so faithful to continually provide for Summit and our children!!!"
"Summit makes a huge difference in our grand sons life!! The staff has consistently been faithful to build Christian character in our grandson! The last holiday break I became keenly aware of the difference Summit makes in his life again!! The first day after returning to school, when our grand son got home from school he was almost angelic. He was calm, peaceful, loving, kind and helpful. I am so thankful for Summit and the entire staff, they are a God send!! This alone would be important, but they go beyond and have an excellent academic program as well!!"

Are you under the provisions of SB 48?
No, Summit is not required to teach the provisions of SB 48. The Law provides that:
"60044. A governing board shall not adopt any instructional materials for use in the schools that, in its determination, contain:(a) Any matter reflecting adversely upon persons on the basis of race or ethnicity, gender, religion, disability, nationality, sexual orientation, occupation, or because of a characteristic listed in Section 220. (b) Any sectarian or denominational doctrine or propaganda contrary to law."
Summit is exempt from these provisions.
What is your approach to discipline?
Summit was founded on the beleif that each child is a gift from God and made in His image. When problems arise we teach children to resolve differences immediately and directly in accordance with Matthew 18. Hence our main mission to "raise a new generation of leaders who live and learn with Christian character" will be accomplished as our students take on increasing responsibility for their behavior. We strive to have all of our student walking in the Spirit in accordance with the apostle Paul's admonition in Galatians 5:16-26, and to obey those in authority over them at the first request. This happens when a person has a heart to obey God out of love for Him and rules and the law diminish in necessity.
How large are your classes?
Summit is committed to keeping the class sizes small enough to allow the teachers to get to know each student and their family on a personal level. Our largest class is 25 students per teacher and the average is 17.
How is Summit different from Public Schools?
Summit teaches the same basic required content as the California public schools based upon the California State Standards and Framework but by using a biblically integrated curriculum from Bob Jones University Press and the Association of Christian Schools International. This assures that our students learn to see all of life from a biblical perspective sometimes called a "biblical worldview".
The public schools teach that all beliefs are equal, but evolution is fact, thereby implying that any other belief is superstition. This concept alone discards the truth and authority of the Bible and places everyone's values and beliefs on an equal plane (moral relativism). Any explanation about creation that differs becomes by definition unscientific because science and the scientific method is seen as the only truth, everything else is merely opinion. Humans become just another "highly evolved animal"with equally valid values and opinions, devoid of any spiritual nature, and by presupposition, sin is irrelevant.
Christian students find themselves living in two different and opposing worlds (church and home vs school) with the dominant influence coming from the public school with some teachers and peers who don't share the same values. Younger students are particularly vulnerable to the sophisticated arguments indoctrinated by secular schools. One example is recently passed legislation that mandates instruction in lifestyles which are in direct opposition to Biblical teachings.
How is Summit different from other Christian schools?
First, Summit is an independent inter-denominational school with an independent governing board made up interested persons from the schools community. The Summit team is dedicated to growing the next generation of Christians who excel both academically and spiritually because they want to Glorify the God of the Bible.
Swcond, we believe this only happens as a result of the transformation of the heart. Man made rules, behaviorist methods, or secular systems of instruction cannot achieve this goal, it is a work of the Holy Spirit of God as the Word of God is modeled, taught and practiced by Christian teachers who are also experts in their domains. "Summit Christian School aims to implant in the heart of each one of its students that the glory of God is the primary pursuit of all our striving. "Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him." (2 Corinthians 5:9)".
Academic achievement is the result of excellent curriculum taught by exceptional teachers with class sizes small enough to ensure that ever child has teacher time. Our curriculum is research based but utilizing an integrated biblical approach. See our philosophy section for more...

What do you mean by "interdenominational"?
Summit has students from many different denominations and independent churches. We welcome families who will support our Statement of Faith and that believe in the essentials of the Bible, that it is God’s written revelation to man. It is composed of sixty-six books which are divinely inspired and inerrant in all their parts. The Bible is infallible and the final authoritative source for faith and conduct (Psalm 12:6; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21). That there is one true and living God, eternally existent in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, coequal, perfect in their attributes, each deserving worship and obedience. God is the Creator and sustainer of all things which He miraculously accomplished by the Word of His power in six literal days (Genesis 1-2; Exodus 31:17; Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 44:24; 48:16; John 1:3; 2 Corinthians 3:18; 13:14; Colossians 1:15; Hebrews 1:2).
How does Summit's curriculum differ from public school's?
Summit teaches the same basic required content as the California public schools based upon the Common Core Standards, but by using a biblically integrated curriculum from Bob Jones University Press and the Association of Christian Schools International. This assures that our students learn to see all of life from a biblical perspective sometimes called a "biblical worldview". The underlying assumptions about the nature and existence of God have a tremendous impact on shaping the curriculum of a school. Summit is NOT required to teach the provisions of SB 48
The public schools teach that all beliefs are equal, but evolution is fact, thereby implying that any other belief is superstition. This concept alone discards the truth and authority of the Bible and places everyone's values and beliefs on an equal plane (moral relativism). In California with the adoption of SB 48 the public schools have defined a mandatory secular value system be taught to all students K-12. Christian students find themselves living in two different and opposing worlds (church and home vs school) with the dominant influence coming from the public school with teachers and peers who don't share the same values. Younger students are particularly vulnerable to the sophisticated arguments indoctrinated by secular schools.
The motivations for learning at secular schools becomes recognition, self glorification and self gratification as students respond to Darwinian approaches to learning (secular learning theories). This attitude creates a classroom environment of selfish disrespect, and makes teaching and learning very difficult for the serious student. The school atmosphere is confusing and feels unsafe because there are no shared values and Christians with clearly defined and absolute values are marginalized and sometimes ridiculed. The decisions about curriculum content are politically correct and responsive to the loudest voice in the crowd and must exclude the Bible with its opposing (absolute) worldview. At Summit we view the whole child as a spiritual being created by God to glorify God with and by their life; hence to "live and learn with Christian character." Our students are taught that learning is to be desired because it honors their God whom they love. By glorifying Him with their life actions, learning becomes a positive lifestyle where each student strives to excell in the giftedness that God has given them. Going to school is something they look forward to doing in a safe and caring environment where biblical truth is exalted.
What about Accreditation?
Summit is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International and is undergoing the review and procedural steps necessary for accreditation. Most K-8 schools in California are not accredited, but Summit is a candidate for accreditation by Western Association of Schools and Colleges next year and is a participant in the ACSI STAR program.
