SHOP Program

The On-Line Academy has multiple advantages for the home school family. Students from 3rd-12th grade use a computer with internet access to complete school work.

Advantages:

· Student diagnostic testing for proper academic placement.

· Academic projection for graduation to clarify student requirements for motivation.

· School enrollment, but work at home.

· High School Transcript from a school.

· College entrance school number for testing and applications.

· Optional standardized testing which can be done at home (Additional $50).

The On-Line Academy Includes:

Our school uses Switched-On Online which is an internet-based remote access program which utilizes the most current version of Alpha Omega Publications' award-winning Switched-On-Schoolhouse for grades 3-12. It features 3-D animation and cutting edge multimedia. Students finish lessons by completing various questions, activities, and quizzes, with a computer over the internet.

One advantage of the online method versus the CD curriculum: With our Online Academy, occasional subjective scoring is handled by our teachers. With CD curriculum, the parent handles the subjective scoring.

Low Tuition:

Three payment options to choose from. Tuition includes curriculum fees for five core subjects. Additional subjects $150 each. Special savings are normally available for enrollment before the end of June.

3rd-8th Grade Tuition Fees: Full Year $900, Quarterly $235, Monthly Payment $100

Daily Teacher Availability and Academic Support:

In the On-Line Academy, your students will complete their schoolwork right at home and submit it to our qualified teachers through either Internet synchronization or remote access (real time connection) each day. Our teachers will grade the work, return it, offer personalized academic assistance, and monitor your students’ work. They personally review all subjective problems and reports, address student questions and concerns, and comment on student work. An internal e-mail messaging system is built right into the curriculum, so that students and teachers can easily communicate daily.

If your student needs one on one help they can come in and receive instruction direct from the online teachers for a small additional fee.

Students are guided through the lessons at their own pace, giving them the chance to master concepts before moving on to more challenging lessons. There are approximately 130 lessons per subject. Five core subjects — Bible, Language Arts, Math, History & Geography, and Science — are available for grades 3-12. A number of electives are also available.

The online curriculum provides an interactive learning environment with 3-D animation, video clips, and other fascinating multimedia. It provides automatic grading, record keeping, and lesson planning with the click of a mouse, freeing parents more.

The curriculum is written on the principle of "mastery learning." This means that students truly master the content and skills of one unit before progressing to the next. Different students learn at different speeds, thus mastery learning ensures success by allowing each student to spend as much time as necessary in one subject area prior to moving on.

Minimum System Requirements

Basically, all you need is a web browser and access to the internet. Parents using a satellite or dial up will not be able to use the online program. Air cards with broadband should work.

Switched-On Online runs on various web browsers including Mac browsers.
You do need the latest version of Flash player and you need a program for reading .PDF files such as Adobe Reader both of which are available at www.adobe.com.

   * If you are on dialup, the media files are available on a DVD and may be purchased by individual users.

Summit offers both a Home School satellite or “umbrella” program and an On Line distance learning program. If you want to get your children out of the secular progressive “rain” please e-mail our office for more details about the umbrella program.

Home school Satellite “Umbrella” Program

Summit offers an option to parents who want to home school their children but still want the support of education professionals. Summit will keep a record of your students studies, include them in our testing program, provide you as parent instructional and curriculum support and allow them to participate in our day school programs as you choose.
